FILM & VIDEO PRODUCTION

Long before I embarked on my GL Journey, I had the privilege of being able to experience working on several video production projects, but it was more focused on learning from my seniors and brainstorming on storylines. However, watching them made me wonder how I could also bring out the charms of the performers we were seeking to showcase - even as far as personally being behind the camera's lens. And that was the start of my wanting to improve the overall quality of videos produced, in order to support my fellow CCA performers and others I would eventually work with in the future from behind the scenes.
Camera Functions
In order to get the desired shots, the camera settings must be adjusted. Through watching previous music video shoots for Music Vox (my CCA) and YouTube tutorial videos, not all things can be fixed in post-production. Hence, it is essential that the camera functions are set to combat external factors (such as exposure, shutter speed and white balance) to make the editing process easier.
Camera Set-up & Filming Techniques
With the cameras available in school, there are a variety of techniques that can be used to create a diverse variety of shots without requiring gear that is too expensive or high-maintenance. There are many factors that can influence the quality of a take, of which I have listed all my takeaways from The Shot List.
Lighting Set-up
In order to get the desired shot, external light sources may also be used. The size and type of light can vary based on the background and size of the subject. If the set is not sufficient lighted, the video will appear grainy. The videographer will have to compensate by adjusting the exposure, which can pose undesirable effects on the background.

The videos showcase my practice in filming and editing in lieu of my GL journey - putting into practice what I had learnt through the time of my research and learning. I was fortunate to have the proper equipment and platforms to practice and showcase my work, allowing me to have a better grasp on what I had read about. Though I still have a long way to go on perfecting these techniques, I have a much clearer idea on how to utilise and produce videos to better showcase people.

Filming Practice: Camera Settings
Using a stationary Canon 80D camera, I filmed several episodes for Music Vox's podcast and tried to toggle the different settings that I had learnt about to achieve the visuals I wanted.
Filming Practice: Camera Movement
Using my phone's camera app, I tried out filming a fully moving video, with consideration of framing, how movement affects light and how camera angles can also convey emotions of the performer.
Deliverables

Video Concept Proposal:
Last Words
I use what I have learnt to create a video concept proposal for the music video shoot of Last Words. This puts into practice what I have learnt on camera angles and movement to create a storyline, while considering the feasibility of the video shoot.

Storyboard:
Last Words
I use what I have learnt to create a storyboard for the music video of Last Words, detailing the scenes from those proposed in the video concept proposal. I consider the feasibility of a live shoot while laying out the storyline of the music video.

Master Shot List:
Last Words
I use what I have learnt to create a consolidated Master Shot List for the music video of Last Words, clearly laying out the filming plans, such as the lyrics accompanying the actions, camera angles and movement.
